Ethiopian Origin ID documents

Applicants for an Ethiopian Origin ID (often called the Yellow Card) may need supporting documents such as birth certificates, parents’ identity documents and family records. We translate those documents between English and Amharic, Afaan Oromo or Tigrinya.

What's included

Check current requirements

Origin ID requirements and fees are set by Ethiopian authorities and the Embassy, and they change. Confirm the current document list with the Embassy before ordering translations.

Ethiopian calendar dates

Dates are translated exactly as written in the Ethiopian calendar, with the Gregorian equivalent added as a translator’s note. This keeps your records consistent across USCIS, Social Security and passport filings.

Names matched to your passport

Ethiopian and Eritrean names follow a given name–father’s name–grandfather’s name pattern, and spellings vary. We follow the spelling on your passport, so please include its photo page.
